Tourism Awareness Week Schedule of Events
Monday, June 7th Event: The Official Launch of Tourism Awareness Week Speakers: The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, John Dicks, Chair of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, Lloyd Kane, Vice Chair of Cupids 400. Time: 2:00pm – 4:00pm Location: Cupids Community Center, Seaforest Drive, Cupids Cost: FREE!
Description: HNL’s Tourism Awareness Week Committee will host a Tourism Awareness Week Launch reception at the Cupids Community Center in Cupids from 2pm to 4pm. The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation will join HNL Chair John Dicks as ‘John Guy’ reads the 2010 Tourism Awareness Week Proclamation declaring the official opening of Tourism Awareness Week. Attendees will also be welcomed by the Vice Chair of Cupids 400.

Tuesday, June 8th Event: Revenue Management Webinar Speaker: Eva Gutsch, Stem Consulting Time: 9:30am Location: HNL Boardroom, 187 Kenmount Road or remote location via home/office computer Cost: HNL Members: $30 + HST Non-Members: $50 + HST Non HNL Members
Description: The challenge is to sell the right experience/product to the right customer at the right time for the right price. On Tuesday, June 8th, HNL will host a Revenue Management Webinar hosted by packaging expert Eva Gutsch of Stem Consulting. This 90 minute webinar provides participants with the foundations of Revenue Management. During the webinar participants will determine what to offer to meet the customer’s needs. Participants will learn how to make price and product adjustments based on customer needs and values including the development of a pricing strategy to maximize revenue opportunities.

Wednesday, June 9th Event: HNL’s Annual Tourism Awareness Week Luncheon Speakers: Stephen Foster, Vice President, Operations, Canada Region, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Ken Martin, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Time: 12:00pm for 12:30pm Location: Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, St. John’s Cost: HNL Members: $57.53 + HST Non-Members: $69.03 + HST
Description: As residents of Newfoundland and Labrador we all contribute to the character of what makes this place so special. On Wednesday, June 9th join the HNL Board of Directors, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and industry leaders at the annual Tourism Awareness Week Luncheon at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland. Member networking with a cash bar will begin at 12:00pm with lunch being served at 12:30pm. Stephen Foster, Vice President, Operations, Canada Region, Starwood Hotels & Resorts will deliver the keynote address commenting on what makes Newfoundland and Labrador such an attractive place to do business. The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation will also comment on the province’s efforts in the 2010 resident marketing campaign.
Also taking place at the Luncheon will be the presentation of various emerit certifications and the presentation of the Ambassador of Hospitality Award to a deserving recipient who has dedicated a great deal of time and effort to advancing the tourism industry.

Description: Nature and the environment are a major piece of the tourism puzzle in Newfoundland and Labrador. On Thursday, June 10th, join Ashley Russell, Marketing and Public Education Officer at MMSB and other tourism operators to discuss simple and easy ways green practices can be implemented into day-to-day business practices.

Event: The City of St. John’s Tourism Awards Speaker: John Dicks brings greetings on behalf of HNL Time: 3:00pm Location: City Hall Description: The City of St. John’s holds this event annually during Tourism Awareness Week to highlight the importance of tourism to the capital city. During the event, the City presents awards to those people and organizations that go out of their way to help build a strong and vibrant tourism industry.

On Friday, June 11th, HNL, in partnership with Destination Labrador, the Western Destination Marketing Organization, Adventure Central, Destination St. John’s, the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and Parks Canada, will be launching a video contest ‘What I love about Newfoundland and Labrador.’
By submitting homemade videos, participants will be entered into the contest and have a chance to win one of four prize packages offered by the Destination Marketing Organizations, the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and Parks Canada.
While this contest is open to the general public, this is a great way for tourism operators to showcase their businesses and local community and region! HNL members are encouraged to submit their own videos as well as encourage their patrons to submit their videos for the contest.
Further contest details and contest criteria will be released on June 11th as part of Tourism Awareness Week.
